  • Cepheid (Sunnyvale, CA) acquired Sangtec Molecular Diagnostics AB (Bromma, Sweden) for approximately $27 million in cash. Sangtec develops and manufactures PCR-based molecular diagnostics products.

  • Biosite Inc. (San Diego) has added McKesson Corp. (San Francisco) to its distributor network. McKesson joins Physician Sales and Service (Jacksonville, FL), the Caligor division of Henry Schein Inc. (Melville, NY), and the Fisher HealthCare Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (Waltham, MA) as distributors of Biosite’s point-of-care diagnostic products to the physician office market.

  • Meridian Bioscience Inc. (Cincinnati) received clearance from FDA to market the ImmunoCard STAT! EHEC for the diagnosis of E. coli infection. The new product detects all shiga-toxin-producing E. coli and is the first product resulting from the partnership announced last year between Merck KGaA (Darmstadt, Germany) and EMD Biosciences (San Diego).

  • AbD Serotec (Munich) and Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (Waltham, MA) signed an agreement covering the use of Thermo’s DyLight Dyes in combination with AbD Serotec’s research antibodies to prepare a series of fluorescent reagents. The resulting products will be available through the AbD Serotec sales catalog.
