- Dade Behring Inc. (Deerfield, IL) signed a license agreement with Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre (Nijmegen, The Netherlands) that grants Dade Behring exclusive rights to the development of a new coagulation test. This global test has the potential for screening a broad range of coagulation disorders, including thrombophilia and fibrinolytic abnormalities.
- Adlyfe Inc. (Rockville, MD) has received a patent for a novel diagnostic testing method of blood and other bodily fluids for the early detection of more than 40 amyloid diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, systemic amyloidosis, diabetes, and other diseases.
- Inverness Medical Innovations Inc. (Waltham, MA) acquired First Check Diagnostics LLC (Lake Forest, CA) for approximately $25 million in cash. First Check primarily provides over-the-counter home testing for drugs of abuse and offers retail tests for alcohol abuse, cholesterol monitoring, and colon cancer screening.
- Affymetrix Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) has granted Tessarae Inc. (McLean, VA) nonexclusive access to its microarray technology to develop and market epidemiological research tests for public health and biodefense surveillance to better understand and respond to pandemic infectious-disease threats.
