NotableBritish Biocell International (BBI; Cardiff, UK) has made a strategic investment in Quotient Diagnostics Ltd. (Surrey, UK), which holds the license for a pioneering new diabetes test. The test is the result of several years of research at St. Bartholomew's Hospital (London). The test provides a rapid, convenient, and inexpensive diabetic marker for glycosylated hemoglobin HbAlc. The test will yield a more accurate picture of the diabetic's condition over time than blood glucose monitoring. Once fully developed, the new assay would add to a portfolio of products that will take advantage of BBI's developing global network within the diabetes market.
BBI has been active in the diabetes market and, in 2004, the company acquired an established glucose product called HypoStop. The gel has been used by diabetics in the UK for more than 20 years as an aid for low blood sugar levels, and BBI plans to launch the product to the global diabetes marketplace.
