Ten years and counting
It may seem hard to believe, but exactly 10 years ago, in January 1995, Canon Communications (Los Angeles) published the first issue of IVD Technology. That issue was the beginning of what has become the preeminent journal covering the IVD industry.
The first issue of IVD Technology included a letter from publisher Bill Cobert who wrote: “Whether your work involves research chemistry, microbiology, process engineering, manufacturing, testing, or packaging, IVD Technology promises to become your premier trade publication. As the publisher of IVD Technology, Canon Communications is dedicated to serving the information needs of the diagnostics industry.”
Since then, IVD Technology has followed through on its promise of becoming the IVD industry’s premier trade publication. The magazine is still the only publication that is dedicated to covering the IVD industry. IVD Technology also remains committed to providing IVD manufacturers with the most up-to-date regulatory and technical information that affects their businesses.
Cobert also stated that, “we look forward to a long, continued growth together.” While the IVD industry has experienced considerable growth, IVD Technology has also grown alongside the industry. Moreover, the magazine has played an important role in contributing to the industry’s growth. For example, despite the diverse nature of the IVD industry, IVD Technology has brought together the various parties involved under one umbrella. The magazine has given such parties a common voice and has provided a community for IVD manufacturers.
Both IVD Technology and the IVD industry have come a long way since 1995, and both have many reasons to celebrate their achievements. Throughout 2005 IVD Technology will be reflecting on the IVD industry’s accomplishments during the past 10 years and speculating on what the future holds for the next 10 years.
The commemoration of IVD Technology’s anniversary begins with this issue. One article in this issue, “Celebrating IVD Technology’s Tenth Anniversary,” presents the various ways in which the magazine has contributed to the IVD industry. This issue also includes a list of the top 10 IVD manufacturers. Such lists will be a regular feature in all of the issues during this anniversary year.
IVD Technology will publish a special anniversary issue in April 2005.
IVD Technology hopes that throughout the year, IVD manufacturers will take a few moments to reflect on how far the IVD industry has come, and consider the industry’s potential during the next 10 years.
