he industrial application in the field of powder and bulk solids systems, of sorting procedures means to design and implement strategies able to realize a full identification, recognition, classification and
separation of particulate solids. Such a goal has to be realized designing solutions really matching industry requirements and expectations. In this perspective the integrated utilization of digital imaging and spectrophotometric based techniques can represent a valid approach.

The possibility offered by digital imaging techniques in the field of particle and particulate solids systems opens new and dramatic means of characterization. The costs are very low if compared with the benefits. The main problem related with an extensive and profitable utilization of such a techniques is mainly represented by the low level of information of people involved in powder and bulk solids sector. This workshop is strongly oriented to dissipate doubts and win the fear to use such procedures. It will be principally focused on the technical and practical aspects of image processing and analysis, in order to give a full overview of the strategies to follow and the methodologies to adopt in order to handle and process digital images of particulate materials both at laboratory and industrial plant level.
