Bins & Hoppers: The Basics-Joseph Marinelli, Solids Handlings Technologies, Inc.
Flow problems in bins and hoppers can be costly in terms of equipment downtime and
maintenance, lost production, and poor product quality. Solids flow problems in
industries such as utilities, chemical, food, plastics, etc. can be disastrous. Bulk solids
handling in bins and hoppers, is not a topic that is typically taught at the university level.
In this workshop, we will provide those unfamiliar with solids flow principles and
graduates, the basic information required to identify and solve bin and hopper flow
problems
Retrofits Workshop-Joseph Marinelli, Solids Handlings Technologies, Inc.
The solution to typical solids handling problems requires modification to existing bins,
hoppers and feeders. It is oftentimes more economical to use an existing structure as
opposed to installing new equipment. There are many practical approaches to modifying
bins and hoppers. In this session, we will discuss several approaches to retrofitting existing bins. The technique begins with knowledge of material flow properties. Modifications to existing
systems by using liners, wedge shaped hoppers; cone-in-cone designs, etc. will be
discussed.
