Advances in Cardio Technology
The cardiovascular market is easily the largest subsector in the device industry. Technological advances in the cardio sector are changing the landscape of this sector, and investment remains strong in many areas, including stents, transcatheter valves, and cardiac rhythm disease management. This panel discussion will examine the investment opportunities, as well as the underlying technologies and the future of these devices in improving healthcare efficiency and patient care.

About the Chair
Sherrie Conroy, Editor, MD&DI Magazine
Sherrie Conroy is Editor-in-Chief of MD&DI magazine. She is also Editor of Medical Electronics Manufacturing magazine. She joined Canon Communications LLC in 1995, already having 11 years of technical and scientific publishing experience. Formerly the editor-in-chief of an analytical chemistry magazine, she has also been an editor for publications in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, and plastics industries. She has a BA in journalism from the University of Oregon.

Hans Hinrichs, Vice President, GE Capital
Mr. Hinrichs is the Vice President of Corporate Finance for GE Healthcare Financial Services and holds over 12 years of private capital investment and M&A experience in the healthcare sector. Mr. Hinrichs’ current responsibilities include developing relationships with healthcare operating executives and executing and managing leveraged loan financing opportunities in the healthcare, medical device and diagnostic imaging sectors. Prior to GE, Mr. Hinrichs worked in strategic marketing and business development for St. Jude Medical (“SJM”), where he co-developed the launch plans for SJM’s Epicor, its atrial-fibrillation-device. Mr. Hinrichs spent several years as a Senior Associate at Marquette Capital Partners, a private equity and mezzanine debt investment firm. He began his career as a mergers and acquisitions analyst for clients represented by Wachovia (formerly AG Edwards & Sons).
Dr. Andrew Reed, Vice President of Science and Technology, AdvanSource Biomaterials
Dr. Andrew M. Reed has been our Vice President of Science and Technology since April 2006. Prior to April 2006 Dr. Reed was Executive Vice President of CCS Medical a direct to patient provider of diabetic, respiratory, ostomy and wound care supplies. From 1999 to 2005 he was Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Gericare Providers, Inc. a supplier of wound care products for patient’s in-home use. He was President of Innovative Technologies (US), Inc. the US Division of a UK based private label manufacturer of proprietary wound care products from 1997-1999. From 1990 to 1997 Dr. Reed held management positions of increasing responsibilities at PolyMedica Corporation, a direct to consumer diabetic, pharmaceutical and wound care product manufacturer and provider, including Vice President of Research and Development and President of PolyMedica Wound Care Company. Dr. Reed was responsible for R&D and manufacturing functions. Earlier in his career, Dr. Reed was a Senior Research Chemist at Millipore Corporation. Dr. Reed is the holder of several U.S. Patents, primarily in the area of polyurethane and wound dressing technologies, and is the co-inventor of ChronoFlex®. Dr. Reed is a Chemistry graduate of the University of Liverpool, UK, where he received his Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry. He is the author and co-author of numerous published scientific papers.
