Definitive Design Wins 2007 Medical Design Excellence Award
Langhorne, PA (April 10, 2007) – Definitive Design has received a 2007 Medical Design Excellence Award for its development of the Full Life Pilot™ Walker, a revolutionary mobility aid designed to meet the needs of a variety of patients who experience mobility challenges.
The new-design walker includes several unique features, including a second set of handlebars for helping patients rise to and from a seated position without the need of external help, a location for an I.V. pole, larger wheels for easier maneuverability, a built-in seat, and an array of innovative attachable accessories.
Definitive Design's team of expert designers and engineers collaborated to create a development path that would bring the Full Life Pilot ™ Walker into the marketplace. The steps of the development path are as follows: competitive market research, collaboration with physical therapists to better identify patient mobility needs, generation of new ideas for product and feature concepts, development of a variety of attachable accessories, generation of form study models, 3D CAD engineering that incorporated FEA for the purpose of analyzing product safety criteria and rating, optimization of the design for efficient and economic off-shore manufacturing, created and analyzed physical prototype models produced by Definitive Design's affiliate, Paramount Industries Inc. for the purpose of verifying functionality, developed packaging specification for shipping, and finally, management of engineering documentation for off-shore manufacturing.
The Medical Design Excellence Awards is organized and presented by Canon Communications LLC (Los Angeles) and is the only awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products. The entrants are judged on the design and engineering features, including innovative use of materials, user related functions that improve healthcare delivery and change traditional medical attitudes or practices, features that provide enhanced benefits to the patient, and the ability of the product development team to overcome design and engineering challenges so that the product meets its clinical objectives.

The 2007 Medical Design Excellence Award winners will be honored at a ceremony during the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East Conference and Exposition, June 12-14, 2007, at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Gold and silver award recipients will be announced at this time.
