The Medical Design Excellence Awards program is directed by an interdepartmental team of Canon staff. Assignment of responsibilities for various parts of the program changes throughout the year, but generally follows the descriptions provided below. Michael Bartolomei—Bartolomei is a marketing manager in Canon Communications’ publications division. He is responsible for all phases of marketing for the North American and Global Medical groups which include titles such as MD&DI, Medical Product Manufacturing News, MX, European Medical Device Manufacturer, China Medical Device Manufacturer, Medical Device Technology, and the industry’s leading Web site, Medical Device Link, plus more. Sherrie Conroy—Conroy is coeditor-in-chief of Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine (MD&DI). She has been at Canon for 13 years and has been on the staff of MD&DI for 10 years. She works out of Canon’s headquarters in Los Angeles. She continues to serve as editor of MD&DI’s sister publication Medical Electronics Manufacturing. Conroy holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oregon. For the MDEA program, Conroy helps recruit and select the jury panel and assists in managing the judging process. She also coordinates MDEA coverage in MD&DI, which is the publication sponsor of the awards, and assists in coordinating the MDEA ceremony held at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. Joey Cruz—Cruz has worked in the trade show industry for nearly 22 years and joined the trade show division of Canon Communications in 2005 as senior operations coordinator. Cruz holds a certification in exposition management from the International Association for Exposition Management.  Dan Cutrone—Cutrone has been with Canon Communications since 1993. He started as marketing manager in its trade show division, where he was instrumental in creating many of the strategies and action plans that remain the core of the company’s successful attendance promotions. For two years, Cutrone served as the trade show customer and media relations manager, where he was responsible for public relations and was actively involved in exhibitor communications.  Steve Halasey—Halasey is editor-in-chief of MX: Business Strategies for Medical Technology Executives (www.devicelink.com/mx), a publication of Canon Communications (Los Angeles). Halasey joined Canon in 1992 as managing editor of Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine and also served as executive editor of that publication before taking on the role of editor for IVD Technology, the Canon publication devoted to the development and manufacturing of in vitro diagnostics, in 1997. In 1999, Halasey launched an annual business review of the medical technology industry titled Medical Device Executive Portfolio, which has since increased to bimonthly frequency and taken on the title of MX. Designed exclusively for top-level executives in medical technology companies, MX focuses on issues related to business planning, company finance, governmental and legal affairs, and other topics of importance for company management. Halasey is also a member of the steering team for the Medical Design Excellence Awards competition, for which he directs processing and preparation of entries, coordinates selection of jurors, and oversees the judging process. Donna Lawrence—Lawrence joined Canon Communications in 2007 as senior marketing assistant in the trade show division. Lindee Levicke—Levicke has 26 years of publishing experience in consumer and business-to-business publications, having worked in a variety of circulation, sales, and marketing positions. As a marketing manager for Canon Communications, she develops marketing materials for Nutritional Outlook, Cosmetic/Personal Care Packaging, Powder/Bulk Solids, China Medical Device Manufacturer, and Med Tech Precision magazines. For the MDEA program, she is responsible for coordinating the content of the awards ceremony and ordering the winner trophies and sponsor awards. Lisa Perrin––Perrin is the group publisher of Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine, MX: Business Strategies for Medical Technology Executives magazine, e-newsletters and custom products allied to the brands, and the Medical Device Link Web site (www.devicelink.com). Perrin has more than 20 years of leadership and managerial experience in business-to-business publishing organizations and joined Canon Communications’ management team in 2006. For the MDEA program, Perrin and her sales team are responsible for acquiring sponsorships and increasing program awareness in the supplier community. Erik Swain—Swain is coeditor-in-chief of Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine (MD&DI), for which he has been on staff since 2003.
