Extending Your Stay? Visit the New Porsche Museum

One thing you definitely don’t want to miss while in town for MEDTEC Europe in Stuttgart is the brand new Porsche Museum. Completed in December 2008, the museum is located right in the heart of the unique sports car company's production plant, presenting the fascinating Porsche brand to visitors from around the world. More than 80 cars are on display, ranging from the legendary wheel hub motor of the Lohner-Porsche, the world’s first hybrid automobile built more than a century ago, to the latest generation of the Porsche 911. At the entrance leading to the exhibition, the visitor will immediately see the great-grandfather of all Porsche cars, the legendary Porsche Type 64, the Berlin-Rome car built back in 1939. In addition to world-famous, iconic vehicles such as the 356, 550, 911 and 917, the exhibits include some of the outstanding technical achievements of Professor Ferdinand Porsche from the early 20th century. And as ingenious ideas, fascinating technology and legendary cars deserve nothing but the finest setting, the building is a definite eye-catcher. Resting on just three V-shaped pillars, the dominant main body of the museum appears to hover high above the ground like a monolith, covering a span of up to 60 m or almost 200 ft.

Aside from the exhibition, the museum offers a “transparent” workshop for historical cars, where customers are able to have their classic cars restored and the visitor in return has the opportunity to watch Porsche’s master mechanics and specialists working on all kinds of classic Porsches. Another highlight is the historical Porsche Archives. After registering in advance, Porsche enthusiasts can visit the archives to research the history of Porsche. The museum also offers a wide range of various catering services and generous conference facilities. So go ahead and enjoy yourself going on a nostalgic journey back in time. Opening hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed on Monday.
