The heating system recycles previously heated air, thus providing accurate temperature control and achieving a high heat-transfer rate. This is especially beneficial when working with tubes that have small diameters, thin walls, or high expansion ratios. The heating system along with the integrated controls “enable the customer to run higher speeds with less waste and fewer tubing bursts,” says Dale Henson, principal engineer and president of the firm.
The use of recirculated hot air eliminates problems associated with radiant heating models, according to the firm. The tube temperature in the expander unveiled by Engineering By Design in February cannot exceed the temperature set in the recipe. Consequently, line stoppages will not cause melting.
A cold box helps bring the expanded tube back to room temperature prior to measuring. The system can also be used for reel-to-reel screening.
