Proxy Biomedical, Creganna Form Celtic Alignment

A supplier of tissue engineering biomaterials, Proxy Biomedical has teamed with contract manufacturer Creganna to supply bioabsorable implants and associated delivery systems to European markets.
Proxy Biomedical, a supplier of tissue engineering biomaterials, has announced a business alignment with Creganna, which supplies contract device design and manufacturing services. The companies, both of which are headquartered in Galway, Ireland, will endeavour to “provide an integrated bioabsorbable implant and optimised delivery system for medical device companies,” says Peter Mulrooney, Operations Director at Proxy. “Our goal is to establish a total supply chain for the European market,” he adds.

Proxy is focused on the design, development and production of tissue engineering biomaterials. The company owes its beginnings to a surgical mesh developed by Managing Director Peter Gingras. Today, the firm applies its biomaterials expertise to an array of products, adjusting the materials’ mechanical properties to suit their final applications (wound healing, orthopaedics and cardiovascular repair are the most common uses).

“Manufacturing techniques have an enormous implication on the biomaterial’s mechanical and biological properties,” says Gingras. By carefully selecting the material and through the judicious use of CAD/CAM systems and optimised processing, the company’s corps of engineers can customise a material to meet almost any mechanical requirement, he adds.
