Cendres+Métaux (Biel/Bienne, Switzerland; www.cmsa.ch) took top honours at this year’s Entrepreneur Espace Mittelland competition. The regional event rewards the most dynamic companies from the west-central (Mittelland) part of Switzerland. Cendres+Metaux was part of an initial pool of approximately 100 eligible companies. Six finalists ultimately were chosen.
Cendres+Métaux produces micromechanical components for use in cardiology devices, spinal products, hearing aids, and dental implants. The company also supplies products to the jewelry and luxury watch sectors and markets its own brand of dental alloys and attachments.
Organized by the Swiss Venture Club (SVC), the Entrepreneur Espace Mittelland gauges much more than a company’s financial performance, stresses Cendres+Métaux head of corporate centre Manfred Leuenberger. “The judges look at the company culture, its branding initiatives, and all sorts of things,” he notes. In fact, SVC representatives make it a point to tour the facilities of the six finalists and to ask in-depth questions, adds Leuenberger.
Regional winners are eligible to compete in national and international competitions. Cendres+Métaux’s 2008 journey ended in Bern at the Mittelland awards ceremony. But there is always next year.
