Phthalate-Free TPE Withstands Sterilization

Offering water clarity, sterilization capability, and low extractables, a high-performance, custom-formulated thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) from GLS Corp. (McHenry, IL, USA; www.glscorporation.com) addresses regulations limiting phthalate-based plasticizers in medical tubing and other healthcare-related devices. Phthalate-free, plasticizer-free Versa­flex CL E95 TPE is suited for use in various extruded films and tubing and blow-moulded bags and containers. This plastic has a hardness of 95 Shore A, specific gravity of 0.90, tensile strength of 2500 psi, elongation of 575%, and a tear strength of 700 pli. Stable under gamma radiation and autoclave sterilization, it can be supplied with various hardnesses and flow properties and in custom colours. The material exhibits flexibility at low temperatures.
