A two-component adhesive that meets USP Class VI guidelines cures to a tough, flexible, optically clear silicone rubber at ambient temperatures. Curing can be accelerated by exposing MasterSil 151 MED to elevated temperatures. The compound’s low viscosity ensures that cavities are completely filled even if the parts have complicated contours or complex configurations. Other properties of the material from Master Bond Inc. (Hackensack, NJ, USA; www.masterbond.com) include 160% elongation, <0.1% linear shrinkage, minimal outgassing, electrical insulation, and vibration and shock resistance. The compound’s service temperatures range from –55° to 205°C. It withstands repeated sterilization.
