Ametek Acquires Motion Control Firm
Electronics firm Ametek Inc. has acquired the Motion Control Group (MCG), a global manufacturer of custom motors and motion control products for a variety of applications. Headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, USA, Motion Control Group offers brush-commutated and brushless dc motors, which will expand Ametek’s existing motor business. MCG will become part of Ametek’s Technical & Industrial Products unit, whose products include dc motors, hybrid stepper motors, motion controllers, and pumps.

Instrumentation Company Breaks Ground on New Headquarters
A manufacturer of instrumentation equipment, Mocon has announced that its Lippke division, which specializes in testing equipment, has broken ground for its new headquarters building in Neuwied, Germany. The 8400-sq ft structure will be located within a mile of the present facility and will have 50% more space. It will house office, laboratory, and warehousing functions. The company expects to move into the new headquarters in September.

Atek Opens Medical Device Facility in Costa Rica
Contract manufacturer Atek Medical has opened a medical device manufacturing facility in Heredia, Costa Rica. “With this new investment, Atek Medical has doubled its manufacturing capacity and strengthened its ability to offer manufacturing and new product launch services to the medical device industry,” says Kay Phillips, president of the firm. The facility will specialize in disposable and implantable device manufacturing. Atek took possession of the building late last year and is currently producing several product lines at the facility.

Plastics Compounder Establishes UK Unit
Plastics specialist Teknor Apex Co. (Pawtucket, RI, USA) has established a holding company in Oldbury, W Midlands, UK, which will control the firm’s compounding business in Europe. Named Teknor Apex UK, the subsidiary will begin small-lot manufacturing of thermoplastic elastomers during the first half of this year. Products to be manufactured at the facility include engineering thermoplastics, thermoplastic elastomers, and PVC compounds.
