International Titanium Association Awards Industrial Innovation

Continuing its mission to promote and expand the use of titanium in industrial and consumer applications, the International Titanium Association (ITA; Broomfield, CO, USA) is accepting applications for its second annual Titanium Applications Development Award. The deadline to submit applications is 30 June.

The ITA will announce the winner of the US$20,000 award at the Titanium 2008 Conference, which will be held at Caesar’s Palace Hotel in Las Vegas on 21–24 September. Five executives from Nippon Steel Corp. (Tokyo) garnered the ITA’s initial applications development award last year.

ITA’s education and outreach efforts to promote new applications are intended to reduce the cyclical nature of the titanium industry. “We want to promote the use of titanium in emerging markets,” explains Brett Paddock, the president and COO of Titanium Industries Inc. (Rockaway, NY, USA), who was instrumental in launching the award. He states that he would like the award to “inspire the next big idea for titanium,” pointing to high-end applications in medical and other markets as fertile ground for new business.
