Compact brushless ac servomotors can deliver peak torque up to 3.8 N•m and rapid acceleration in small 40- and 60-mm2 frames. The BSM R-series motors from Baldor UK Ltd. (Bristol, UK; www.baldor.com) are almost entirely cog-free and provide very smooth motion at slow speeds. This attribute makes them suitable for precision motion applications in medical equipment.
In addition to the two frame sizes, the motors can be specified with one or two winding stacks. This provides developers with a selection of continuous stall torque ratings spanning from 0.16 to 1.27 N•m and peak torque from 0.48 to 3.8 N•m.
Options include a resolver or 2000 PPR encoder fitted for positional feedback, and a 24-V dc brake. A comprehensive range of drives and motion controllers are available to support the new motors.
