Introduced to a European audience at last year’s EMO show in Hannover, Germany, the 2626XP machining centre achieves a level of precision that can only be matched by techniques such as wire cutting and milling. The JetMachining centre developed by US-based Omax Corp. (Kent, WA, USA; www.omax.com) is distributed by Innomax AG (Mönchengladbach, Germany; www.innomaxag.de).
The system’s abrasive water-jet technology can accurately cut parts sized as small as ±0.015 mm directly from a CAD drawing or dxf file. An all-stainless-steel construction makes the machine of particular interest to medical device manufacturers.
Omax also recently released version 11 of its proprietary control software, which it claims is the first control software for water-jet systems to run on Microsoft Windows Vista. The software was tested on its machines for more than one year to ensure that it worked at peak efficiency for machine tool motions and tool path execution. It is available in several languages, and the software upgrade is free to the company’s customers. It can be downloaded from the Omax customer service Web site.
