Flat brushless dc motors measuring only 32 mm diam and 11.7 mm long offer high continuous speed and easy design integration and mechanical installation. They are also described as reliable, owing to their brushless design, which eliminates mechanical wear. The nuvoDisc line of motors has been introduced by Portescap (La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland; www.portescap.com) to cater to markets where miniaturization is paramount.
The motor’s high-speed slotless design eliminates cogging to provide smooth operation and accurate performance. A slotted design is available for applications that require detent torque.
As much as 75% shorter and 90% lighter than conventional flat motors, nuvoDisc motors allow engineers to miniaturize applications without sacrificing performance. Speeds up to 50,000 rpm and 10 mN•m maximum continuous output torque can be attained. In addition to being highly efficient, the product draws less current, thus generating less heat, than many other miniature motors, according to the manufacturer.
