RP Firm Adds Metal-Clad Composites to Offerings
Rapid prototyping, manufacturing, and product development company Laser Reproductions (Gahanna, OH, USA) has joined stereolithography resin firm DSM Somos (New Castle, DE, USA) and metal-plating firm RepliForm (Baltimore, MD, USA) to offer metal-clad composite prototypes. Introduced in 2006 by DSM Somos and Repliform, metal-clad composites represent the merging of two technologies to deliver metal performance from a prototype without machining. By combining a high-strength stereolithography resin with nickel plating, the process produces a highly stiffened composite with significantly enhanced physical properties. Parts formed using the method are said to offer a low-cost alternative to die-cast and sheet-metal parts.

NuSil Expands Silicone Healthcare Line
NuSil Technology Europe (Sophia Antipolis, France), a manufacturer of silicone-based materials for healthcare and other applications, has launched an extension to its line of healthcare gels. MED-6380 is suited for use in healthcare applications that require an unfilled room-temperature vulcanizing material. The low cure temperature of this material makes it suitable for incorporating heat-sensitive additives such as pharmaceutical compounds, biocides, excipients, and other functional fillers. The pourable, three-component gel can be moulded or used as a soft, conformal coating.
