German Cable Company Secures Wiring Contract for Siemens MRI Unit

Leoni Special Cables GmbH is responsible for all of the wiring in Siemens’s new Magnetom Essenza MRI machine.
The medical unit of cable manufacturer Leoni Special Cables GmbH (Friesoythe, Germany) has secured a contract to provide cable systems for MRI units to Siemens Medical Solutions (Munich). The contract includes development and production of all the internal wiring for Siemens’s new Magnetom Essenza MRI unit. According to Leoni, the new technology is suited for hospitals and private practices wishing to contain their budgets for complete diagnostics.

In addition, the Siemens 1.5 MRT system is wired exclusively by Leoni. The cable specialist’s contributions to this unit include the Quench Monitor Loom for supervision of the superconducting magnet coils, the switch and heater loom for internal changeovers and temperature control, the service loom for data acquisition, the wiring of the helium-level probe, and the main current lead for the power supply.

First test samples of the cables developed by Leoni have already been inspected in a testing laboratory in Oxford, UK, and have now been approved for serial production.
