Teleflex Medical OEM Expands Irish Plant

To meet current production needs and to add some elbow room for new product development, Teleflex Medical OEM has spent US$500,000 to expand its facility in Annacotty, Co. Limerick, Ireland. The initiative is described as the first installment in a long-term strategy for expanding production capabilities.

The expansion will allow the firm to create additional extrusion platforms and to provide more broad-based tubing products, according to plant manager Jerry Kiely. Furthermore, it will accommodate the company’s planned growth in the production of high-value devices that focus on intervention procedures, he adds.

The company’s US headquarters in Jaffrey, NH, also recently announced the acquisition of Specialized Medical Devices Inc. (SMD; Lancaster, PA, USA), part of its purchase of the assets of HDJ Company, Inc., also based in Lancaster. SMD was a wholly owned subsidiary of HDJ, and it provides engineering and manufacturing services to medical device OEMs. The transaction adds a line of medical components, devices, implants, and instruments used primarily in orthopaedic procedures to the Teleflex Medical portfolio.
