Gerresheimer Acquires Wilden

Packaging specialist Gerresheimer Group GmbH (Düsseldorf, Germany) has acquired injection moulder Wilden AG (Regensburg, Germany), giving the company eight additional production plants and more than 2300 new employees. The purchase is expected to provide the manufacturer with an additional ?240 million in annual sales, giving it a cumulative sales volume exceeding ?900 million. The firm now has a combined total of 31 production plants and approximately 8500 employees in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Gerresheimer has announced that it will reorganize itself in four divisions comprising tubular glass, moulded glass, life science research, and plastic systems.

With medical applications accounting for roughly two-thirds of its sales, Wilden will bring to Gerresheimer its expertise in manufacturing a variety of pharmaceutical, diagnostic, medical technology, and consumer healthcare products. In particular, the firm has experience developing products for diabetes diagnosis and drug-delivery systems.

Despite its extensive product palette, the firm remains committed to the medical market. “We are clearly focused on the pharmaceutical and life science fields,” stresses director of corporate PR and marketing Burkhard Lingenberg. The company plans on expanding its involvement in the medical market well into the future. “We will continually refine our growth strategy in the pharmaceutical and life science domain,” Lingenberg adds. “Acquiring Wilden has already given us many new possibilities to explore in the field of medical plastics.”
