Gel therapy system
An absorbent gel therapy system developed by a supplier of hydrogel products is available for use by manufacturers of wound-care products through partnerships and other forms of collaboration. The company offers a portfolio of CE-marked wound dressings that are manufactured at UK sites in compliance with ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 13485:2003 standards. First Water Ltd., Ramsbury, Wilts, UK.
Acrylic PSAs
Nonsensitizing acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) designed for wound-care applications facilitate bonding to a variety of skin types while allowing for easy removal. The MA-46 adhesive is available in a range of tape constructions to enable long-term wear, including a 2-mil-thick single-faced polyurethane tape that is conformable and transparent. A 10-mil single-faced tape can also be requested for applications that require dimensional stability. Adhesives Research, Limerick, Ireland.
Breathable film catalogue
A recently published catalogue summarizes the key characteristics of a company’s line of products for wound-care applications. The publication describes the complete Inspire range of breathable films. Foam constructions for dressings that can be applied without support films or papers are featured. InteliCoat, Wrexham, UK.
Medical foams
Medical-grade hydrophilic foams for use in wound-care devices are described as fast wicking and able to absorb and retain exudates. They are also compatible with a range of active ingredients. The products can be supplied in thicknesses ranging from 0.04 to 1 in. and can be custom engineered to achieve desired absorbency, fluid retention, density, cell size, and softness and other surface properties. Rynel Inc., Wiscasset, ME, USA.
Polyurethane film
Soft, conformable medical-grade polyurethane (PU) film is suitable for direct skin applications including dressings and other wound-care products, and for medical device attachment. The transparent PU film carrier is single-coated with a medical-grade acrylic adhesive. It is supplied with an 86# glassine polycoated release liner. Advanced silicone gel adhesive products are also available from the firm. Scapa Medical, Windsor, CT, USA.
