Capacitive data transmission technology

Capacitive data transmission technology allows noncontacting transmission of high data rates for applications such as CT scanners that require an inner bore diameter of 1.5 m. The system fulfills all industrial EMC requirements regarding emissions and noise susceptibility. Parallel links can accommodate data rates exceeding 40 Gbyte. The system supports fibre-optic serial link standards including Ethernet, allowing data rates of 1.25, 2.50, 3.125, 4.50, and 10.30 Gbyte/second. Schleifring, Fürstenfeldbruck, Germany.

Bar code reader

An image reader is designed to read 96 bar coded vials in a microplate rack in a single image acquisition. The data decoded from the bottom of each vial is then sent to the user by means of serial or Ethernet connections. The vial location in the microplate rack is identified and communicated along with the location of empty vial slots. The Matrix MP integrated reader combines an LED system, image-capturing, and decoding features, and communication interfaces. Offering full programmability by means of Ethernet, the unit also provides an autolearning function for quick installation and setup. Datalogic, Bologna, Italy.

Voltage resistors

Leaded high-voltage resistors are available in standard sizes ranging from 0.25 to 2 W. Using cost-effective metal glaze technology, the MG series of voltage resistors offers voltage ratings up to 3500 V and tolerances as low as 1%. The firm also produces a range of electronic products including medium and high-voltage chip resistors, divider networks, and precision resistors that are moisture resistant. The high-voltage and pulse resistors are suited for use in ECGs, defibrillators, and an array of other medical equipment, while the firm’s precision resistors can be used with medical instrumentation. Stackpole Electronics, Raleigh, NC, USA.

Endoscopy displays

A company offers a range of electronic products for medical imaging. Typical applications include miniature battery-driven colour display units for laryngoscopes. The displays offer functions such as colour management, format conversion, image compression, and image digitization. NeuriCam, Trento, Italy.

Power supplies

Power supplies deliver up to 350 W of continuous output power. Regulated output voltage ranges from 3.3 to 48 V in 0.1-V increments. The GT(M200)P350- series power supplies feature aluminium U-channel chassis with optional top covers; they are offered in 200-W convection-cooled to 350-W forced-air-cooled versions. Dc power, remote voltage sensing, and current-share capability are also available. Unit footprints start at 196 × 170 × 46 mm. The power supplies meet UL and TÜV safety requirements. Custom versions are also offered. Globtek, Tübingen, Germany.

Magnetic active compensation system

A magnetic active compensation system is designed to shield sensitive MRI systems from environmental ac/dc magnetic interferences. Suited for super-high-magnetic-field applications, the unit can be used to improve MRI image quality. In addition, the system enables MRI systems to be placed in locations that used to be off-limits because of fluctuating magnetic fields. The unit offers more than 3× the compensation provided by the integral-magnetic-field compensation systems in most open MRI systems. ETS-Lindgren, Le Blanc Mesnil, France.

Pressure switches

Pressure switches can be used to monitor pressure as low as 0.1 mbar in a range of media. Suitable for use with kidney dialysis and blood pressure measurement devices among other applications, the switches can operate for up to 20 million cycles over a standard temperature range of 40° to 150°F. The company also offers a range of sensors that measure parameters such as position, force, weight, angle, temperature, and pressure. Designed for harsh conditions, switches in the company’s Goldtech line can function from –40° to 185°F. Variohm, Towcester, Northants, UK.

Power supplies

A family of 400-W ac/dc switching power supplies can be used in an industry-standard 1U enclosure. The SMM400 power supplies can support power densities of up to 0.38 W/cm3. Available in 19 single- and five dual-output versions, the power supplies support a choice of output voltages ranging from 3 to 48 V dc. The primary output is user adjustable by ±5%. Operating in ambient temperatures ranging from 0° to 50°C, the units are available in U-channel and enclosed formats. XP Power, Pangbourne, Berks, UK.

Superluminescent light-emitting diodes

A developer of superluminescent light-emitting diodes (SLEDs) has released a 750-nm SLED line that is suited for optical coherence tomography and other medical applications. The diodes are semiconductor light sources that combine the spatial coherence of laser diodes with the temporal incoherence of light-emitting diodes. The units’ spectra show a clean Gaussian shape with low ripple values. The SLEDs offer high output power and large bandwidth with high suppression of second coherence peaks. Exalos, Schlieren, Switzerland.
