Connectors that combine pins, contacts, blades, and components on a single platform provide power density in a compact package.
|
Recently introduced connectors combine pins, contacts, blades, and components on a single platform, allowing greater conductivity and functionality to be designed into small-footprint devices. The MultiWise connectors from Onanon Inc. (Milpitas, CA, USA) offer design engineers new options to lower contact resistance while maintaining the necessary power/signal mix.
Compared with conventional connector designs, the use of blade pins can increase conductivity because they can be fabricated from rugged copper and brass alloys. They carry more current than alternative materials, and thus free up space for additional connector configurations and components. Moreover, surface-mount devices such as decoupling capacitors, resistors, and integrated circuits can be placed directly on the connectors.
Blades, pins, and contacts are loaded by means of a shake insertion method. This technique does not cause trauma to circuit boards and will not fracture other components or damage electronics. Because the connector elements are never cut, they are not subject to corrosion.
