CM Medical has added a 72-m2 cleanroom to its facility.

After almost doubling production capacity in 2003, CM Medical (Biel-Bienne, Switzerland) has achieved a new milestone this year. Acceding to customer demand, the firm has announced the availability of blister and PE-based packaging services in an ISO Class 8 cleanroom. The 72-m2 cleanroom was installed in July and has been operational since August. Validation is expected by the end of this year.

The decision to install a cleanroom is part of a larger strategic initiative at CM Medical that aims to offer a range of supply-chain services to customers and to add value to the services it currently provides. Ultimately, the firm would like to supply distribution-ready products to its customers.

The broader scope of services will be most attractive to medium- and large-size companies, says Francis Vonrospach, international sales manager. It will make CM Medical a “real supplier of outsourcing services,” he notes. Smaller companies will be more likely to turn to single-solution providers that offer standard packaging materials and services, Vonrospach adds.

CM Medical manufactures customer-specific micromechanical components with a precision in the micron range, using high-quality biocompatible materials such as precious metals and titanium alloys. An in-house engineering team provides product design assistance to customers. The company supplies the cardiology, spinal, dental, and hearing-aid markets. It can handle prototype to high-volume production; is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 13485; and ISO 14001; and is US FDA registered.
