Sensors with digital signal processing capabilities have been designed to provide anaesthesiologists with additional assurance that patients are receiving the proper quantity of active ingredients. The flow sensor was developed by Sen-sirion AG (Zürich, Switzerland).
Based on microelectromechanical system technology, the sensor is attached to a microchip that houses an evaluation circuit and storage device. This construction allows sensitive signals to be safely boosted and digitized. The chip is suitable for the mass-flow measurement of liquids and gases in anaesthetic, respiratory, and diagnostic applications.
