Balloon catheters are among the products manufactured on a contract basis at a recently opened plant in Shenzhen, China. The company is committed to maintaining quality systems that meet the requirements of multinational OEMs.

A manufacturer of PTCA balloon catheters, coronary stent delivery systems, and related products on a contract basis has announced the completion of a 12,000-sq-ft facility in Shenzhen, China. Located in the Futian Free Trade Zone, just north of Hong Kong, the SynexMed plant includes a 3000-sq-ft Class 100,000 cleanroom. The quality systems have been designed to meet the stringent standards of European and US OEMs, stresses president and CEO Eric Chien.

“Our goal is to provide competitive top-quality intravascular catheters to Western-based and lo-cal device manufacturers on an OEM or private-label basis,” explains Chien. “We have built the new facility in China to use a relatively low- cost but well-trained labour force. It allows us to manufacture [products] at an attractive cost without compromising performance or quality,” says Chien.

The range of services available at the Shenzhen plant include balloon pleating and folding, tube welding, UV bonding, stent crimping, assembly, packaging, and labelling.

Chien practiced as a clinical cardiologist in Shanghai before completing a cardiology fellow-ship at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA, USA. He earned a PhD in pharmacology from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine.
