A Switzerland-based contract analytical laboratory has announced the opening of a Singapore branch. SGS (Geneva, Switzerland) will provide quality control testing of pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, and medical devices at the new location.
“Many of our clients in Europe and North America have established manufacturing capabilities [in the Asia-Pacific region],” says Helge Bastian, executive vice president of the company’s life science services (LSS) division. “As their partner, it was a clear decision to expand our network and set up this state-of-the-art laboratory.”
Bastian cites Singapore’s burgeoning status as a production hub for pharmaceuticals and medical devices as a major factor in the business decision. Through its testing capabilities and regulatory insight, SGS intends to contribute to the advancement of the biomedical community in Singapore and neighbouring countries.
Located in Ayer Rajah Crescent, the 450-m2 lab offers analytical chemistry, microbiological testing, and method development and validation. The Singapore facility represents an expansion for the company’s LSS group, which boasts 16 pharmaceutical QC operations in North America, Europe, and Asia.
