Engineering Site Facilitates Plastics Research

A provider of Web-based information has announced a service specifically designed for plastics technologists. Available from Knovel (New York City), the plastics site provides extensive information, search capabilities, and integrated software tools. Available at www.knovel.com, the search technology enables professionals to find information from leading publishers and professional societies. It offers more than 500 online full-content books covering a range of subjects in science, technology, and engineering. The firm also recently announced the addition of several nanotechnology-related titles stemming from a partnership with World Scientific Publishing. The site also offers a collection of analytical tools that can be used to calculate data, resolve equations, sort and export tabular data, and extract data from graphs.

Web Page Simplifies Conveyor Selection

A conveyor manufacturer has simplified the sourcing of mainline conveyor systems by providing a selector on its Web site. Located at www.dorner.com/selector, the application from Dorner Manufacturing Corp. (Harland, WI, USA) asks visitors a series of questions about desired belt width, belt speed, load capacity,
and drive-motor location. The entire questionnaire is designed to take a few minutes to complete. Based on the input, the program provides a list of conveyors with spec sheets that best accommodate the customer’s needs. The company’s home page, located at www.dorner.com, also assists in conveyor selection. There, users can click on navigation paths such as “industries,” “applications,” or “conveyor styles” to source appropriate conveyors. Service manuals, product literature, service advice, 3-D models, and 2-D CAD programs are also available for download.

Online Sensor Configurator Streamlines Ordering Process

A designer and manufacturer of sensors has launched a configuration tool that allows customers to specify, price, and order sensors, instruments, and assemblies online. Available from Minco (Aston, France) at www.minco.com/sensors_config, the sensor configurator lets users input a part number or select a part from a menu and configure the part to suit the desired application. All of the company’s temperature sensors, including probes, assemblies, flexible thermal-ribbons and thermal-tabs, miniature embedded sensors, and stator-winding detectors are available for configuration with the tool. Customers also can configure temperature transmitters, controllers, and indicators for turnkey operations.
