Compact modulators developed by e2v form part of an RF power unit that is incorporated into the Hi-Art radiation therapy system.
|
The maker of a radiation therapy system that is used to treat hundreds of patients daily has awarded a US$7 million contract to e2v (Chelmsford, Essex, UK) for the supply of compact modulators and magnetrons. The agreement will enable TomoTherapy (Madison, WI, USA) to expand the capabilities of its Hi-Art system.
The components provided by e2v generate the prime energy for the Hi-Art accelerator, which delivers the x-rays used in the imaging and treatment of tumours. The UK firm’s high-voltage direct-switching solid-state modulator is designed for use in linear accelerators. Combined with a magnetron, electromagnet, and microwave launching section, the assembly constitutes a complete radio-frequency (RF) power system for the Hi-Art system.
E2v develops and manufactures electronic components and subsystems for high-tech industries. Its RF and sensing technology is used in dental x-ray, mammography, x-ray microscopy, and other life science applications.
