Engineering Site Upgrades Technical Content
Research and reference content from John Wiley & Sons Inc., the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Knovel Corp., and other publishers has been indexed by an engineering Web site. Journals, technical encyclopaedias, handbooks, and eventually technical books from Wiley will be accessible on the GlobalSpec (Troy, NY, USA) site, along with more than 1 million technical documents from IEEE, including journal articles and conference proceedings, and more than 700 interactive and keyword-rich engineering reference books from Knovel. The index enhances GlobalSpec’s existing search technology, Engineering WebSM, which includes more than 85 million products from more than 15,000 supplier catalogues. The Web site can be accessed at www.globalspec.com.

Cable Design Tool Introduced
An interactive online tool provides simple step-by-step instructions for configuring Gore High-Flex Flat or Trackless cable from standard components with five-day lead times. The new configurator at www.gore.com/designacable simplifies the cable design process and generates a downloadable 3-D CAD model. Shielded or unshielded power and signal, video, Ethernet, IEEE 1394, fibre-optic and pneumatic cables can be configured on the site. Users can take an interactive tour to learn more about the configurator, proceed to design a cable, and submit a request for quotation.

Fluid Power Catalogue Update Expands Offerings
More than 200 products have been added to Beswick Engineering’s 2006–2007 catalogue, which is available for download in PDF format at www.beswick.com. Included in the new catalogue are several products that feature size and weight reductions, while maintaining functionality and corrosion resistance for demanding applications.

The compression fitting line now includes 1¼4-in.-OD tubing with straight or adjustable elbows. A smaller M3 version has been added to the miniature check valve line, and series of diaphragm pressure regulators, vacuum regulators, and other new products are available.

IEC Launches Online Certification Verification
An online service for electrical equipment was introduced in October 2005 that reduces fraud by ensuring IECEE CB Scheme certification—an international system for assuring the safety and authenticity of electrical and electronic products. Among the information made publicly available are the CB Scheme test certificate’s reference number, name of issuer, date of issue, model, type of product, and the IEC standards referenced. Certification information is available by typing in certificates’ reference numbers at http://domino.iec.ch/cbtestcert under the Web site’s “public information” section.

No password is required for the service.
