In BriefCoating Firm Announces Compliance with RoHS Directive
Having completed compliance testing, Specialty Coating Systems (SCS; Indianapolis, IN, USA) will now offer its parylene conformal coating services and raw materials in accordance with the Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS), well before the July 2006 deadline. The directive mandates that all new electronic products and equipment sold in the European Union be free of certain hazardous materials including lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium.
SCS operates 10 coating facilities throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.

Createchnic Changes Name to Reflect Strategic Repositioning
In July, Createchnic AG (Nürensdorf, Switzerland) changed its name to Medisize Schweiz AG. Createchnic was integrated into the healthcare division of Gurit-Heberlein (Wattwil, Switzerland) in 2004. The name change is intended to reinforce the company’s position as the Swiss subsidiary of the Medisize group, with sister companies in the Netherlands, Ireland, and the Czech Republic. Medisize Schweiz AG will continue to develop and manufacture primary plastic packaging, generally under cleanroom conditions.

Drug-Delivery Systems Firm Expands Industry Presence West
Pharmaceutical Services Inc. (Lionville, PA, USA), a manufacturer of components and systems for injectable-drug delivery, has announced an agreement to acquire The Tech Group (Scottsdale, AZ, USA), which makes plastic components and assemblies for the pharmaceutical and medical device markets. The acquisition includes nine facilities in the United States, Mexico, and Ireland.
