Dublin Conference Promotes Medical Innovations

Innovation Island II: The Global Innovation Summit for Medical Devices and Diagnostics is a two-day conference devoted to promoting innovation and interaction among the academic, industrial, and clinical arenas. The event will be held in Dublin on 4 and 5 May.

In addition to technical papers on diagnostics and trends in respiratory, cardiological, and orthopaedic products and therapies, keynote speeches are scheduled from management pundit Charles Handy, Spaceship 1 designer Burt Rutan, and mechanical engineer and designer of orthopaedic implants Harry McKellup. Workshops on fostering innovation will also be offered.

Exhibition for the Nonwoven Materials Sector

Applications for nonwoven materials in the medical and other markets will be showcased on 12–15 April at the Geneva Palexpo in Switzerland. Among the innovations to be highlighted at Index are new scaffolds for 3-D biological tissue engineering, implantable fabrics that reinforce natural tissues, and nanofibre nonwoven filtration media. Products that possess liquid-repellent and bacterial-barrier properties for surgical masks, gowns, and drapes will also be on display. In addition, the show will host daily exhibitor product presentations, R&D seminars, and an industry summit.

Conference Discusses Medical Packaging

A conference on pharmaceutical and medical packaging will take place on 10–11 May in Copenhagen, Denmark. The programme will feature 20 expert speakers from throughout Europe who will address a variety of issues including validation, subcontracting, packaging materials, RFID, and extractable testing for medical device packaging. An adjacent exhibition will provide delegates with the opportunity to inspect materials and product samples.

Industrial Fair Combines 11 Trade Shows

The Hannover Fair, to be held 11–15 April at Hannover Messe in Germany, comprises 11 separate trade fairs. The international trade shows that make up the event reflect the growing convergence of individual technologies and markets. Participating trade fairs include factory automation; microtechnology; motion, drive, and automation; energy; compressed air and vacuum technology; industrial equipment; subcontracting; and research and technology.
