Vacuum-Formed Packaging Made in the UK

UK-based Charpak Ltd. has added a cleanroom for vacuum-formed packaging to its Huntingdon facility.

There is a dearth of suppliers of vacuum-formed packaging in the United Kingdom, according to Paul Smith, sales and marketing director at Charpak Ltd. (Huntingdon, Cambs, UK). Since industry, like nature, abhors a vacuum, the company decided to do something about that. It recently opened a purpose-built 2700-sq-ft Class 7 cleanroom to offer vacuum forming services to the medical device and other industries.

“The demand for custom plastic vacuum-formed trays and packaging for the growing medical device sector is currently very poorly served by UK-based manufacturers,” says Smith. Much of the subcontracting is done overseas, Smith adds, which has led to miscommunication on design issues. Charpak hopes to offer an alternative to the local device industry with its state-of-the-art facility.

A designer and manufacturer of vacuum-formed packaging, Charpak is certified to ISO 9001:2000.
