Wilden Builds a Bigger ‘Think Tank’![]() |
| Supplier of injection moulding services Wilden AG has built a 4900-sq m technical centre. |
You might say that Wilden AG is acting locally but thinking globally. The injection moulding giant recently completed the first phase of construction of a 4900-sq-m Technical Competence Centre (TCC) in Wackersdorf, Germany. More than double the size of its predecessor, this centre ultimately will be populated by as many as 180 employees involved in product development, project management, mould making, and related activities. The third and final construction phase is scheduled for completion in May 2005.
By consolidating its technical brain trust under one roof and encouraging cross-fertilization, Wilden hopes to heighten innovative thinking. “We want to intensify the exchange of experience among engineers working in our various business areas, such as medical and technical plastics, for example,” says TCC director Manfred Baumann. “The TCC will be our creative think tank for products and technologies.”
By bringing technical capabilities under one roof, the firm also hopes to accelerate product development projects and to make the process more efficient. In addition to developing products, TCC engineers oversee the mould-making, automation, and injection moulding processes. The company’s network of 13 plants and offices in Europe, the United States, and Asia will continue to fulfill local production. It is hoped that a feedback loop between the production sites and the technical centre will result in continuous improvement throughout the firm’s far-flung facilities.
