Dispensing tool

A compact and lightweight dispensing tool is an ergonomic alternative to hand syringes and other manual dispensing devices. The HP7x eliminates hand fatigue when applying small amounts of thick assembly fluids like silicones, epoxies, and medical-grade adhesives. By using controlled air pressure to force viscous materials through small dispensing needles, it minimizes the risk of repetitive stress injuries. It also increases yields by helping workers produce consistent parts quickly. The tool connects directly to a standard 100-psi air-powered dispenser and can produce up to 700 psi of air pressure in the disposable 3-cm3 syringe reservoir secured within the handle. This permits fast and controlled application of thick fluids through dispense tips as small as 0.0004 in. diam. EFD Inc., Dunstable, Beds, UK.

Medical filter media

Precise, biologically clean, and cost-efficient filter media are available for infusion sets. The Medifab product line consists of raw materials that comply with FDA 21 CFR 177 standards. The filters are processed and tested to ensure low pyrogen levels. All filter media can be surface treated and custom fabricated to fit the needs of medical device OEMs. Sefar Inc., Rueschlikon, Switzerland.

Stainless-steel components

Semifinished stainless-steel components are manufactured for medical OEMs in facilities certified to ISO 9001. The company offers precision tubing and cannulae with a variety of tips, such as long, medium, short, and back bevel; pencil point; and anticoring. The components are available for surgical use in conformity with European and international standards. Artsana S.p.A., Casnate con Bernate (CO), Italy.

Needle-free valves

Needle-free valves feature a flush, swabbable top to minimize contamination. Made of latex-free materials, the SmartSite valves comprise only three parts and have a straight fluid-path design similar to a standard injection port. The streamlined design makes the valves cost-effective to manufacture. SmartSite technology can be adapted to most IV administration applications. Uses include infusion pump sets, heparin and saline locks, extension sets, vial access pins, vial adapters, and bag spikes. Alaris Medical UK Ltd., Basingstoke, Hamps, UK.

Check valves

One-way check valves are available with barbed and straight fittings in many sizes. The proprietary design of the internal disc ensures that valves open at very low pressure, preventing backflow. The valves are made of medical-grade acrylic and silicone, and can be sterilized by EtO or radiation. Steam-autoclavable check valves are available on request. Miniature valves with male and female luer ends are also offered. Resenex Corp., Chatsworth, CA, USA.

IV clamp

The newly introduced Model IV Precision V-Clamp for infusion sets provides consistent flow rates and precision flow control. Other design elements include an improved grip on the tubing and ease of adjustment. Adelberg Europa, Cassina de Pecchi (MI), Italy.

Slide clamp

A miniature open-jaw slide clamp accepts up to 0.06-in.-OD tubing. The clamp’s open-jaw design enables it to be put on the tube after a set is assembled. The product also features a wide grip measuring 0.13 in. that makes it easy and comfortable to engage. The clamp is moulded in lightweight but durable Delrin, a low-wear, low-friction plastic. The company offers more than 50 different slide clamps and tubing in a variety of styles, colours, materials, and sizes. Qosina, Edgewood, NY, USA.

Stopcock

An OEM stopcock is designed for speed, ease of use, and efficiency. A user of the Twist-N-Ject stopcock attaches a syringe containing fluid medicine to the axial port located on top of the lever, twists the syringe barrel to point the lever toward the desired port, and then injects the medicine. Patents and US 510(k) clearance have been secured. The device is available off the shelf. G L Medical, Beverly Hills, CA, USA.
