Colour Active-Matrix LCDs Target Medical Diagnostic Devices
Medical diagnostic equipment is one of the target applications for liquid-crystal displays with 9.4- and 12.5-cm-diagonal screen sizes.

Two new 1-DIN colour active-matrix liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) are suited for use with medical diagnostic equipment among other applications. Optrex Europe GmbH (Babenhausen, Germany) offers the thin-film transistor products in 9.4- and 12.5-cm-diagonal screen sizes.

The modules are designed to provide an economical off-the-shelf, plug-and-play option for OEMs, says John Cramer, business development manager for the company’s US operations.

Both models feature an RGB 320 ¥ 96-dot pixel format with 960 ¥ 96 resolution, a digital interface, 350-nits luminance, 150:1 contrast ratio, and 30-millisecond response time. The units have an operating temperature range of –30° to 85°C. They can withstand storage temperatures down to –40°C. Backlighting is furnished by a cold cathode fluorescent lamp with a minimum 20,000-hour life.

The 9.4-cm version is available with or without a controller board. It measures 104 ¥ 35 ¥ 19 mm with an active area of 90.2 ¥ 25.1 mm. The larger module comes with a controller and measures 138 ¥ 48 ¥ 13 mm. Its active area measures 120 ¥ 36 mm.
