X-ray Inspection System Produces Functional 3-D Images![]() |
| X-ray inspection systems with integrated CT systems allow visualization of minute product flaws in their actual 3-D position. |
A supplier of x-ray inspection systems has announced a partnership with a manufacturer of computed tomography (CT) imaging devices.
FeinFocus (Garbsen, Germany) will integrate CT systems developed by Bio-Imaging Research (BIR; Lincolnshire, IL, USA) into its inspection instruments for volume scanning applications.
The µCT Fox from FeinFocus is reportedly the first industrial system of its kind to include functional 2-D and 3-D imaging. This feature permits in-depth visualization of components. Cracks, voids, delaminations, and other flaws can be viewed in their actual 3-D position. The ability to visualize the precise structure of a device makes the system well suited for use by medical technology OEMs.
BIR designs and manufactures advanced computed tomography imaging systems (ACTIS). ACTIS devices are used for nondestructive testing and metrology applications. The 3-D data sets they generate can be imported into a range of third-party modeling and analysis software.
