Two-Shot Injection Moulding Facility Expands![]() |
| Carclo’s core capabilities include the manufacture of injection-moulded plastic components. |
Prompted by increased demand, a company expanded its two-shot injection moulding facilities in Mitcham, Surrey, UK.
Carclo Technical Plastics (CTP) equipped the expanded facility with equipment from Krauss-Maffei and Demag.
The two-shot injection process allows materials with different colours or properties to be combined effectively into a single component. First, the basic plastic part is formed. Then, before the part comes out of the press, a second shot overmoulds another material onto the part. Manufacturers often use the process to add a gripping surface to medical devices. The majority of the products manufactured by CTP incorporate an elastomer that offers aesthetic appeal. It is also suitable for the manufacture of high-performance seals.
CTP provides a range of manufacturing and packaging services to its customers in the medical, pharmaceutical, and diagnostics industries. Product offerings include drug-delivery devices, diagnostic disposables, optical lenses, and medical devices. The company uses both its own in-house toolmaking facility based at Burgess Hill and strategic European partners. Various tooling methods are available to suit a range of applications. CTP also operates an injection moulding facility in Export, PA, USA.
