Interactive Features Facilitate Selection of Gears and Motors

An interactive Web site provides information on a company’s line of power-transmission components. Launched by Boston Gear (Quincy, MA, USA), it can be accessed at www.bostongear.com. The interactive product configurator BostonSpec2 contains thousands of 2-D and 3-D CAD drawings that allow design engineers to determine the exact part number they need based on their technical specifications. After the part number is chosen, a CAD drawing or a PDF file can be downloaded, and an on-line request for quote can be submitted. Additional site features include downloads of various catalogues, brochures, manuals, and technical specification sheets.

The site also features drop-down menus and other enhancements to help design engineers research, select, and order products. Technical data, CAD drawings, and product specifications on gears, motors, and controls are readily available. Typical products offered by the company include gear reducers, open gearing, enclosed gear drives, clutches, brakes, motor controllers, ac drives, sensors, switches, and related components.

Power-Supply Site Designed for Medical Device Engineers

A supplier of ac/dc and dc/dc power-supply products has launched www.xpiqmedical.com as an information support tool for medical equipment design engineers. The site, sponsored by XpiQ (Holliston, MA, USA) includes guidelines on medical safety requirements and useful links. Designed for easy navigation and quick product access, it provides detailed information on each product series, listing model numbers, full technical specifications, and safety agency approvals. Product data sheets are also available in downloadable PDF files. Other highlights include new product releases and a glossary of industry terms.

On-Line Nanotechnology Research Tool Launched

A Web-based resource compiles existing nanotechnology resources, including patents, journals, and Web sites. The Web of Nanotechnology, launched by Thomson Derwent (London), was created to meet the growing demand for consolidated information about nanotechnology. Performing searches via the site, on-line visitors will be able to stay up-to-date with new theories and emerging concepts, as well as conduct background research for product development. For a free trial, log on to www.thomsonderwent.com/webofnano.
