A medical flat-panel display system played a key role in the visualization of a 3500-year-old Egyptian mummy that may be the remains of Queen Nefertiti. Using x-ray technology, a team of British archaeologists examined the mummy by means of a display system set up in a chamber next to her tomb in the Valley of Kings. Technician Andy Gaskin is shown here examining what may be the legendary queen’s skull on a dual-head Coronis 2MP flat panel developed by imaging technology company
Barco N.V. (Kortrijk, Belgium). With its high-contrast ratio and luminance, the Coronis display systems are suited for use in dark rooms and ambient-light environments. Detailed scans of the mummy were compared with existing data of Queen Nefertiti. The discovery of ancient jewelery within a smashed-in chest cavity and other artifacts led researchers to conclude that the mummy could indeed be identified as Egypt’s Sun Queen.
