High-Density Convertors Offered in Small Package |

Suitable for space-sensitive OEM designs, a high-density dc/dc convertor delivers 500 W from a single low-voltage output. The APC 500, offered by Advanced Power Conversion plc (Hampshire, UK), integrates the power transformer and the input and output inductors on the same ferrite core.
The APC 500 represents an advance in the development of high-power, high-density dc convertor modules, according to the firm. It provides 500 W of power in the industry-standard “full-brick” size. The 5.53 W/cm3 power density represents more than twice the power output of conventional full-brick-size convertors. Built-in protection functions are complemented by features such as a thermal monitoring voltage, which provides early warning of a system failure.
The unit can be easily modified for customer-specific requirements. The transformer windings can be tailored to create a model with a different output voltage. The convertor can also be changed to user-adjustable current limits. A custom convertor can be optimized for maximum efficiency at the anticipated output power.
