Drug-Delivery Actuator Enhancement Receives Patent![]() |
| By enhancing the design of a drug-delivery actuator, Bespak was able to improve repeatability and accuracy in its production processes. |
A company has been awarded a patent for an enhanced drug-delivery actuator. The actuator and its associated production process were developed by
Bespak plc (King’s Lynn, Norfolk, UK). The actuator is typically used with asthma inhalers and similar drug-delivery devices.
The patented technology ensures that the spray plume emitted from a device is delivered directly through the user’s mouth to the respiratory tract. The production process reduces product variability by ensuring that the polymer is poured evenly into the mould. The stem material cools uniformly when the component is removed from the mould. This ensures device accuracy by minimizing part distortion.
Bespak has more than 30 years of experience in the development of custom actuators. Products are developed in parallel with valves and with the customer’s formulation, if required. This integrated approach is said to reduce time to market and costs for OEMs. The company also has announced that it is adding a manufacturing facility to its site. Scheduled to open in late 2003, the plant will expand the firm’s actuator production capabilities.
