Flow-Control Components

Oscillating diaphragm pump

A chemically resistant transfer or circulation pump has a duckbill/umbrella valve that does not require external sealing. The pump features flow rates up to 350 ml/min, with discharge pressures up to 35 psi. It can self-prime to 5 ft. Under continuous operation, fluid temperatures up to 40°C can be accommodated, although higher temperatures can be sustained with an intermittent duty cycle. The life of the pump is rated at 4000 hours, significantly higher if it is operating intermittently. The pump comes with a variety of options, including dc motors for pulse-width-modulated signals; standard motors include ac models in 115 or 230 V, 50/60 Hz. GRI Europe, Soborg, Denmark.

Micropump

Suited for microflow applications, a piezo-driven diaphragm pump can move as little as 3 ml of water per minute. The XXS2000 pump, which can be mass-produced, can also distribute other liquids or gases. Weighing less than a pencil, the XXS2000 is made almost entirely of plastic materials. Diagnostic and drug-delivery instruments are among the potential

Solenoid valve

Fluids only come in contact with a total-isolation solenoid valve’s body and seal. Part of the company’s Dry series, the 3/2 microvalve D351 has an internal volume of 67 µl and overall dimensions of 16 Ą 27 mm along the base and 45.1 mm height. Sub-base mounting is available for installation directly onto equipment. The body is made of a PEEK resin. Seals are offered in EPDM, FPM, and FFPM materials. Sirai, Bussero (MI), Italy.

Valves and valve components

Standard elastomeric valve components, duckbill valves, and umbrella valves are among the products offered by a company. Valves can be ordered with no minimum quantity and often without a tooling cost. Made from biocompatible elastomeric materials, the valves are made in a cleanroom environment. Custom orders can be accommodated. Minivalve, Oldenzaal, Netherlands.

Low-volume valve

A 6-mm manifold-mountable valve reduces the installation space and the internal pipe length of the manifold. The KV-3-series solenoid valve minimizes internal volume at 8.1 µl normally closed and 8 µl normally open, to help users reduce sample and reagent volumes and improve analytical accuracy. Pumping volume is minimized. The moulded PEEK body and perfluoroelastomer diaphragm aid in chemical resistance. Takasago Electric Inc., Nagoya, Japan.

Fluid-handling products

A company offers a complete range of fluid-handling system components and compact modular fluidic assemblies for medical device OEMs. Peristaltic pumps, high-precision switching valves, resistive heaters, and vacuum pumps and compressors are available. Low-flow external and microscale annular-gear pumps as well as piston pumps are also supplied. Micropump Ltd., St. Neots, Cambs, UK.

Flow-control components

Flow-control devices, including in-line and dual check valves to prevent backflow, are available with an assortment of slide clamps and roller clamps. The supplier provides a complete range of valve components, including latex-free and lipid-resistant Ultrasite and Safsite valves. The needle-free valves prevent backflow when they are accessed with any male luer such as a syringe or IV adapter. Burette chamber assemblies for volume-controlled fluid administration are available in 30-, 40-, 75-, and 150-ml sizes.

Fluid-dispensing systems

Controlled multiple-channel precision liquid dispensers are suited for simultaneous fluid delivery. With multiple fluid channels controlled by a single motor drive, Multiplex systems deliver a pulse-free linear dispense profile. Independent channels can be enabled or disabled, and the dispense volume and rate are digitally programmed. Other features include adjustable 40,000:1-resolution bidirectional flow, and industry-standard fluid fittings. Interchangeable pump modules allow for quick changeovers. All parameters are digitally selected by means of an RS-232 interface or touch screen. IVEK, North Springfield, VT, USA.
