Global Device Conference Convenes in Tokyo

After a three-year hiatus, the Global Medical Device Conference is scheduled to convene in Tokyo on 29 and 30 May. This is the first gathering of the international medical device community since meeting in Cancun in 2000; the conference scheduled to take place in Barcelona, Spain, in October 2001 was cancelled amid uncertainties following the 11 September terrorist attacks in the United States.

Following a welcome reception the evening of 28 May, a pleiad of industry and government figures will address a host of issues related to global regulatory developments. Representatives from US FDA, EUCOMED, AdvaMed, Japan’s Federation of Medical Devices Associations (JFMDA), and others will provide an overview of clinical data submissions, healthcare technology assessment, and reimbursement. In addition, sessions will be devoted to emerging technologies in the fields of neurology, remote diagnostics, and regeneration therapies.

Prior to the conference, the Global Harmonization Task Force will meet beginning 25 May, ending with a plenary session on 28 May.

The 10th annual Global Medical Device Conference, organized by JFMDA, will be held at the Toshi Center Hotel in Tokyo. To register for the event and for a complete conference schedule, go to www.
