PRODUCT UPDATE
Kern Micro- und Feinwerktechnik GmbH & Co. KGFor almost 40 years, a company has been producing parts for medical applications in micron accuracies, using techniques such as milling, drilling, surface and profile grinding, circular grinding, jig grinding, wire EDM, and die-sink EDM. In addition, Kern Micro- und Feinwerktechnik GmbH & Co. KG (Murnau-Westried, Germany) offers highly accurate CNC high-precision micromilling and drilling machines, which can be used for machining materials such as titanium, gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and ceramics. End products include cataract lenses, lab-on-a-chip devices, bioimplants, fluid diagnostic systems, microfluidics, artificial finger joints, and prototypes.
"Kern offers high-precision machining with excellent surface qualities and accuracies of 2 µm on the workpiece," says Burkhard K. Rother, managing director. "This includes three- to five-axis operations in microdrilling and micromilling using tools as small as 30 µm in diameter, and with spindle speeds up to 160,000 rpm."
