Kinneir Dufort Sees Double at Design Awards![]() |
| Design bureau Kinneir Dufort was honored by its peers for its contribution to the commercial success of Roche Diagnostics' Accu-Chek blood glucose meters. |
Product design consultancy Kinneir Dufort (Bristol, UK) had its hands full, so to speak, at the recent 2002 Design Business Association (DBA) Awards at the Savoy Hotel in London. In addition to taking home the Industrial Product Design trophy for its work on the Accu-Chek Inform product, the firm also walked away with a commendation in the Consumer Product Design Category for the Accu-Chek Comfort device.
The blood glucose meters marketed by Roche Diagnostics (Mannheim, Germany) were honored at a ceremony held in October. Beyond recognizing design excellence, the award validates Kinneir Dufort's user-focused, holistic approach to product design, according to design director Craig Wightman. "The DBA awards take into consideration the importance of the commercial success of the designs within their industries and how a design is used to capture a product's core brand values and become a key driver in the marketing process," says Wightman. This is particularly important as the "consumerization" of medical products continues to gain momentum, he adds.
Roche Diagnostics, it should be noted, has had a banner year in terms of product design. The company also received an award in the 2002 Medical Design Excellence (MDE) Awards organized by Canon Communications llc, publisher of EMDM. The Accu-Chek Compact, which was designed by Design Continuum Inc. (West Newton, MA, USA), was one of the winners in the In Vitro Diagnostics category.
